Gamelan

Isabelle plays Javanese gamelan, and is a founder member of Southbank Gamelan Players (Ensemble in Residence at Southbank Centre). She has been instrumental in a number of commissions (including the 1998 ISCM Waiting for the Wind commission from Salvatore Sciarrino for voice and gamelan) and collaborative projects with composers and other artists such as Joanna MacGregor, the Plaid-Rahayu Supanggah-SbGP gamelan and electronics Rubber Time (ACE tour 2010), Gamelantronics (Amsterdam, Budapest 2016), Dobrinka Tabakova’s Pulse (RPS commission 2013) and Rolf Hind’s Tiger’s Nest, (Cheltenham Festival and Southbank Centre commission 2014, and 2019 New Music Biennial, BBC R3 New Music Show) in which she was a gamelan soloist. She also performed in the première of Rolf Hind’s On what weft are woven the waters (Huddersfield Festival commission November 2017).

She is a founder member of Hammer & Bronze, an ensemble which promotes, commissions and performs new music for gamelan.
